Portrait © Caught The Light
I read fine art photography at university and my motivation back then to create images remains the same today: a fascination for memory. I believe that photography and memory are intrinsically bound. Not only do photographs inspire reverie and help us to remember moments from our past, they also play an important role as we piece together our family and social histories.
"Like the collector, the photographer is animated by a passion that, even when it appears to be for the present, it is linked to the sense of the past."
Susan Sontag, 'On Photography'
At a wedding I like to work quietly at the heart of the action, reacting to natural moments unfolding around me. I offer direction when needed in order to craft a better image. It's in my nature to be calm and to put people at ease, which I hope comes across in my photography.
I believe that my images embrace simple composition, spontaneity and lots of joy. I also like them to have a light and delicate quality, so that they look as much as possible as memory feels.
